The skills of her lords, brilliant politicians and formidable warriors had given a distinctive "Aura" to the country.
From Beaujeu, the lords of the place controlled one of the main transport axes between the South and Paris, via the Bourbonnais, before the axis of the Saône took the place of it. The Church of St. Nicholas, consecrated in 1132 by Pope Innocent II himself, testifies to this history:

It is in the heart of the 10 crus, in Beaujeu, historic capital, in Vaux-en-Beaujolais better known under the name of "Clochemerle", passing through Salles-Arbuissonnas and Villefranche-sur-Saône, and without forgetting the fabulous country of "the gold stones" with in particular Oingt: Oingt is listed among the most beautiful villages in France ... the route chosen for this new road highlights the Beaujolais appellations.
